Neva and Susan Christensen

Neva Christensen speaks with her daughter-in-law Susan about what brought her to Petersburg and her early impressions of the town in the mid-1950’s. Neva tells about what it was like to be a young wife and mother raising kids in town when many of the men were out fishing for much of the year. She tells how she managed to lure both Joy Janssen and Lois DeBoer to town to be nurses, which she calls her greatest public service to Petersburg. Both women were nurses for many years in town, delivering babies and tending the sick.

Neva shares loving memories of her husband Chris, and how he urged fishermen and loggers to work together to preserve salmon runs.  Neva’s humor and cheerful perspective shines through in this informative interview.
